I define myself with "Problem Description-to-Equation and Equation-to-Solution Generator". I joined IAS-8: Data Analytics and Machine Learning, Institute for Advanced Simulation, Forschungszentrum Jülich on October 4th, 2023. Before moving to Germany, I was an assistant professor with the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST) from October 1st, 2018 to 2023.
Before joining JAIST, I was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Mathematical Engineering at YTU in Istanbul, Turkiye.
I obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2011) from the Computer Vision and Robotics Group of the University of Girona, Spain, and both a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematical Engineering from YTU, Turkiye, in 2002 and 2004.
I was a DAAD-supported visiting researcher at the Pattern Recognition and Bioinformatics Group of Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg in Germany during the summer of 2012.
Afterward, I was with the Ocean Robotics and Intelligence Lab (ORIN). of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon for one year as a postdoctoral researcher supported by the World Class University Program (WCU) funded by National Research Foundation of Korea.
In 2015, I was with the School of Integrated Technology of Yonsei University at Yonsei International Campus in Songdo-Incheon, Rep. of Korea.
My research interests are in the area of Computer Vision and Robotics. I enjoy using math to model and solve real-life problems and develop technologies to improve our understanding of the world.
I have also teaching experience from introductory computer and math courses to advanced ones.
